Simple answer to this: it helped Republicans in 2021. Republicans used RCV for their statewide office nominating convention and it yielded them a consensus candidate who performed well. That's why it puzzles me why Republicans in Virginia continue to oppose RCV.

Ranked-choice voting advocates need examples of where it would help Republicans
The examples being cited in Virginia where ranked-choice voting would help are all ones that might benefit Democrats. That's not helpful to the ranked-choice voting cause.

Personally, I think Norfolk leaders are drawing the wrong takeaway here. Really, Virginia should be examining how aligning our elections with the federal even-year schedule could save money and improve voter engagement.

We know where the old May local elections calendar came from: Jim Crow.
