The FBI's recent report includes this graph of crime rates over the last 20 years. Robbery down. Aggravated assault trending down. Rape and murder disturbingly steady albeit at low rates.

The National Association of Science Writers and the Council for the Advancement of Science Writing are excited to announce that ScienceWriters2025 will take place in Chicago, November 7-9, at the Marriott Chicago O'Hare. We are thrilled to be able to bring the community together this fall in a city with vibrant cultural and scientific opportunities. In this challenging time, we are pleased to have secured a convenient midwestern location with reasonable rates, which we hope will keep costs lower for attendees. After announcing in early March that we were seeking a new conference location, we received an outpouring of support and offers to help from individuals, institutions, and the science writing community at large. We sincerely thank everyone who reached out, many of whom put in a great deal of time and energy into exploring alternatives.

SEJ "Reporting the Overlooked Link: Reproductive Health, Justice and the Climate Crisis" Panel details for Saturday, April 26 from 8:15-9:30. Climate change is making it even more dangerous to have a uterus, affecting the ability to have a healthy pregnancy and baby in a world made more dangerous by rising temperatures, intensifying hurricanes and an environment growing more toxic by pollutants. Now with a new presidential administration that promises to roll back environmental regulations and could curtail reproductive rights, there is an urgent need for environmental journalists to report out how a changing climate will affect pregnant people in their communities. Our panel of journalists will be able to equip audience members with strategies, resources and story ideas that will help them think through different topic areas where they can apply their reporting to center some of the most vulnerable members of society — the pregnant and postpartum people in their communities.
