question: is this formatting for Shadow's dialogue too weird/annoying, especially when it's dialogue broken up by descriptive prose?

Feeling *slightly* dumb for not realizing until approximately five minutes ago that Alastor's hair is cut in the same exact style as his coat (long, angled sides in front, shorter and rounded in the back). 😅

Fold by meticulous fold he rolled up his sleeves; began to saunter towards her in the dim light, only to vanish and reappear next to her head. “Utterly insatiable,” he said, and plucked the silk from her hands, smile stretched long and patient. “Whatever shall I do with you?” “Do you want a list?” she said and giggled, feeling lighter than light, like a dancing balloon. “Because I got’em. Lots of lists. Multiple lists. Scads, even.” His tongue clicked. “Now you’re simply being ridiculous, darling.”

The text reads as follows: chocolate and the dried-honey tang of her own blood seeping sweetly over her tongue. “What exactly should I do here then?” “Sleep!” he’d caroled, and tapped her head as if it was a magician’s hat. “You’re a rather beautiful frazzle right now, my dear.” Charlie had taken the hint—it had been a long night for both of them—and cuddled into his warmth as the fire shimmered and sang, low light notes that rustled gently in her ears as she sank into sleep. Once, she had awakened to see Mr. Shadow staring gravely down at her, his body an anxious curl around their chair. Smiling up into the jagged moons of his anxious eyes she’d tipped him an affectionate wink, and small relieved ripples eddied over his inky body as he slithered to press one of his cobweb kisses to her cheek before dissolving into air. That had been—she squinted—over an hour ago. The rich sugar scent of the cakes tickled her nose again, making her stomach clench; she’d really exerted herself tonight and hunger was starting to hollow her out. <i>Bet I can’t reach them without disturbing him, though.</i> She risked moving her head. Just a twitch at first, then a slow slide until the top of her head met empty air. Catching his chin in her palm, she glanced up at him; eyes open only the merest slit, breathing deep and even. No music. His arm curled loose about her body, fingers in a gentle splay across her belly, ears low and soft. Alastor’s rarest and highest state of relaxation; a testament, along with the cakes, that he was satisfied, then, with the way the night had gone.
