Trump signs an executive order saying that states cannot set their own AI rules. Okay, fine. Doesn't really mean anything. He'll just waste more taxpayer money on silly lawsuits against states with AI laws. After one or two punches on the nose he'll move on to his next stupid initiative.

Saw these guys at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY back in 2001. (Yes I'm olde). This little video reminds me how good they are live.

As a longtime Patriots fan, it annoys me when players still refer to the owner as "Mr. Kraft", even after they're retired. First off, he married into money, so it's not like he's a biz genius. Second, he got and still probably gets rub and tugs at stripmall massage parlors.

Call him Bob.

😥 I first heard the soundtrack to "The Harder They Come" when I was 13, and it hooked me. For years after I grabbed every Jimmy Cliff recording I could find. If he lived to 181 his death still would have been too soon.

The musician was known for hits like You Can Get It If You Really Want and I Can See Clearly Now.

I had to do some minor chores and cleaning today, but instead I ground a bunch of wheatberry to make flour, made some pie crusts, chopped up some chicken breast and some root veggies, and made two chicken pot pies -- all from scratch.

My procrastinating self is not a rational self.

I'm not saying this is a pattern of bias or anything, just an observation: Italian-American authors seem to show up primarily in true crime nonfiction, mafia fiction, immigrant experience memoirs, immigrant experience fiction, and cookbooks.

I ain't sayin', I'm just sayin'.

I'm on our local Little League Board and run our major league. I've coached rec and travel baseball for about 11 years, 32 total teams. I'm well in with the area's baseball community. I can say this confidence -- high-cost elite travel teams are absolute bullshit. It's all middle-class flex.

I don't quite get how people can go on about avoiding Tesla and saying Musk is a sociopath, but then still continue to use any Meta-produced product. To me Zuck is worse than Musk. He's just quieter about it.

If it wasn't Amazon, I'd be a lot more enthusiastic about this. But since it is, I half suspect it being part of a larger plan for world domination.

Another good day yesterday helping my buddy Farmer Dave sell his Project Hot Sauce at the Pleasantville, NY market. Starting to get friendly with the other vendors too, which is nice. I don't even ask for pay. Just having a good time helping a friend out with his now growing business.

There are certain story cheats writers use that really annoy me when I'm reading or watching something. 2 of them are:

When the plot depends on someone doing something unusually stupid to push the plot along.

When a character has trouble saying what needs to be said and gets tongue tied.

One more thing about Mamdani, he is an example of why the liberal arts are still important.

A small collection of advice I've been given and statements I live by:

You gotta learn the rules before you break 'em.

Nobody ever looked back on their lives and said, "I wish I worked more and spent less time with loved ones."

1 is always better than 0. A little progress is still progress.

Enough of all this political stuff. I gotta go lay down some mulch and cover for a spring planting. Corn, beans, pumpkin, tomatoes, basil, carrots, lettuce, spinach -- oh yeah.

I'm hoping all those billionaire s will follow through and start leaving NYC in droves now that Mamdani is mayor. Maybe we'll see some apartment prices come down as a result. Buncha stupid money-driven assholes.

I love that all the neighborhoods I lived in went for Mamdani.

Wish I still lived in the city so I could vote for Mamdani. Very happy to see several of my former neighborhoods going for him.

I was at a Moth Storyslam in Brooklyn last night in support of a friend who was one of the storytellers. He absolutely killed it and then juuuust lost out to another person who also killed it. I'd never been to one of these before. Had a nice vibe. Def worth experiencing.

I agree with Mamdani on most things, but even if I didn't, I want him to win simply because of the people who don't want him to win -- Wall Street, corporations, Trump, DNC, RNC, all of Staten Island.

This may sound counterintuitive, but I'm over-the-moon about a rejection I got on a book query like a half hour after I sent it. Why? Cuz it was so darn fast, but still a nice rejection. On the downside, I would have loved to have worked with someone who is that switched on. Ah well.

Been helping my pal Farmer Dave at the Pleasantville Farmers Market for several weeks now. It's been a thoroughly fascinating experience meeting the vendors/interacting with the customers. We don't even feel like we're selling, just having a fun time. This is how all commerce should work.
November 3, 2025 at 3:54 AM
Ah hell. Sent out the first of many queries today. Time to start the process.
