Hello Bluesky folks, this is my first post, please enjoy a photo of our miniature sausage dogs, Chipolata (Chippy) and Snags. They're trying to appear angelic, but are the ultimate progeny of a concentrated breeding program to create a hunting dog that fulfills the role of a weasel. We love them 💖🌭🐕
This is a photo of our two dogs, Chipolata, (black and tan), we call her Chippy, and Snags (tan), we often call her Snaggy, two small (5.5kg and 6.5kg respectively) smooth coated (or short haired) Dachshunds, cuddling on the couch at home. They are backlit with rays of lights from a window behind them, which is one of their favourite spots to survey their territory, and give occasional warning growls and barks to people/creatures who they perceive may be encroaching on their area, often to the amusement of my partner and myself, occasionally to our chagrin, and frequently to the bemusement of passers by. A lot of folks I talk with don't know that Dachshunds (wiener dogs, sausage dogs, doxies, dachsies, snag dogs) are scent hounds, hunting dogs, that are energetic, stubborn and clever, and need to be instilled with independence to reduce separation anxiety and destructive behaviours. They also require great care in raising them to ensure they are well socialised with people and other dogs. They often have a bad reputation, like many breeds of dog attract, due to the people raising them taking inadequate steps to educate themselves about the needs, characteristics, and behaviour of that particular breed. My wife and I have been intentional and mindful with the way we raised these two, they are far from perfect, but they love people, play well with other dogs, and are not prone to aggression.
