With everything happening in the US right now, how safe are scientific conferences for foreign participants in the US? I think this is something we have to discuss as a scientific community. I am hesitating to register for US meetings due to the unpredictable situation. Others who feel the same?

I am not traveling to USA soon. I like my freedom of expression and do not want to autocensore my opinions for fear of detention or worst if I go to a conference on us soil.

Do not worry, I think even to the most career-oriented apolitical scientists it is clear enough that we live in a world that demands us to speak, unless we are willing to lose the ability to speak permanently. Keep up!

In arguments with my HEP friends, I raised another argument for the fundamentality of Stat. Phys. . While, HEP focuses on the fundaments of this universe, Stat. Phys. should in principle work in a multitude of universes as it is "mathematical" and "independent" of particular Hamiltonian.
