very unusual set of 1977 Soviet art postcards. 2 young Moscow-based artists [Andrei Akhaltsev (known for his space-themed paintings) & Vladimir Vladykin] were dispatched to Sri Lanka as part of a 1973 delegation to gather “pictorial impressions” of the country exceeding “usual reportage”

writing on my fav part of the island - had forgotten that the Danish East India Company briefly held Trincomalee by occupying the Koneswaram Temple in 1620 before they were expelled by the Portuguese who subsequently destroyed the temple. The fort was built from its debris.

‘The Meeting in the Sky’ at Cinnamon Life showcasing 2000 handcrafted kites representing 380 species of Colombo’s wildlife in collaboration with Kavishka Gayashantha, a third-generation kite maker, and designer Kumkum Fernando + team was so, so spectacular.

intensive month of research wrapping up - incidentally this has meant I’ve traveled to Sri Lanka’s northernmost point (Point Pedro), southernmost point (Dondra), both coasts (west & east) and today, the central point (Nalanda Gedige) for the first time ever in a matter of weeks!
