It is ! But there is a general trend to this approach as seen in commercial mastering products which go for that standard squeezed sound. People often forget lots of “it was better in the old days” stuff was mastered for vinyl even the order of songs. But yes should be more bold

Very interesting point. I try and minimise compression on individual instruments (ie none unless absolutely vital). However it always comes out with little dynamic range even before mastering. But I think that’s just my style !
