I feel like romantic relationships tend to be a "one and only" kind of situation, or at least they're treated as such by most people. So while someone may not want a /romantic/ relationship, they may want an /exclusive/ one, and that's hard to find if you're not looking for something romantic.

I personally am surrounded by people who make romance and dating their forefront priority. Which repulses me more personally. But it can make people feel left out too. And it's not necessarily lacking the romance aspect that they're upset about, but—
