Anyone working in this space knows how transformative the last few years have been, and I’m proud to have been right in the middle of it. It truly was a fantastic setup — what some might call “a dream job.”

The past couple of years stand out the most — helping lay the foundation for what it means to be an AI-first engineering organization. We were early, but we were right.

I’ve had the privilege of introducing and evangelizing technologies that directly shaped how Airbnb engineers build — from championing Jetpack Compose to introducing Generative AI inside everyday developer workflows.

..and made lifelong friends along the way. It’s been action-packed — and I’ve felt an incredible symmetry between the energy I poured in and what I got back.

My role has been particularly special: operating at the intersection of Code, Design, and AI has been a dream come true.

My time here has been nothing short of transformative, both professionally and personally. I experienced a pandemic while working at a travel company, witnessed a wildly successful IPO, open-sourced a meaningful project, landed on a Google I/O keynote, transitioned roles, gave countless tech talks..

Moreover, every developer eventually realizes that the way you become a better engineer is by tying thing back to the business and the user.

A fantastic way of doing that is by actually running a business and using apps as a means to do that is the path of least resistance.

This kind of content is rarely discussed when it comes to Android Development so we are excited about being able to bring it to you!

We want the business side of apps to be a bigger part of the conversation because without it, our ecosystem just cannot exist.

While Microsoft made some 4d chess moves over the last few years and certainly made them "dance", their dependency on others for the model chops is a big risk.

This is where Google can really shine. They have complete control over their fate, unlike any other player.

They are truly vertically integrated and it needed to execute at the same pace as the startups around it. Their hand got forced but I think it was for the better.

Nothing like a good ol existential risk.

Google is executing and things are working. A lot of the current AI ecosystem exists due to Google. This is not just from a technological standpoint but also the AI talent that it fostered over the years.
