Straight stitches will require thicker thread so a pliable thread would be your best choice.

How to estimate thread amounts for small areas.
Your thumb is about 1 inch. Calculate how many thumbs multiplied by 1.5. Take that total and divide it into the amount of thread on a skein or card. If it is an uneven number add an additional skein or card.

Where do I being stitching a canvas?
If you are using a silk/wool, silk, or wool thread begin with the lightest color first.
Otherwise by stitching a dark area followed by a lighter color, the light color will pick up darker fibers making it appear as though the dark area has bled into it.

Tidy Totes
Great gift for a stitching friend. It drapes over a chair arm or table to hold leftover threads, scissors, and needles.

When beading a canvas do not place them too close to the edge of the design. They can be broken or pulled on the finishing process. Use a cross stitch or French knit instead.
