It would help to clarify that the small inner area of the District with all the government buildings and monuments would not be included in the new State, just the residential and commercial areas outside this area. At least, that's the proposal I'm familiar with.

There is undoubtedly grade inflation in military officer ranks but real adjustment would come by skillfully working the back channels and phasing it in over time, not making showy pronouncements for the leader.

I was spoiled after a trip to Central Florida where actual paved bike trails crisscross the map from coast to coast. The Am Tobacco Trail is great but far from home and often crowded. NC could do better.
