I can agree w/ that .. I think he suffers from the same misfortune as most other ina11 characters that is there are too many of them and not enough screentime to develop all of them properly. still I like what they did w/ ichinose for the most part w/ the time they had

certain parts of his narrative could've definitely been written better but what IS there is really interesting. also for what it's worth his design is one of my faves. he's one of the top cutest characters in this series imo
so yeah the writers don't do a great job w/ him but he's still really fun..

ichinose choosing the former makes total sense to me and also makes him a more interesting character than if he just did the obvious, "correct" choice.
idk I just like him bc he's fucked up and he's hurt his friends so much BECAUSE he's so fucked up and he's so fascinating to me bc of that.

sometimes when you're disabled you're forced to choose between a fleeting happiness that will aggravates your pain/disability and the depressing emptiness of constantly being forced to rest, not allowed to do what you really want due to the possibility of aggravating your condition
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
again, from an outsider pov his actions just seem irrational and idiotic, but from the perspective of a disabled person, it's very realistic
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
the s3 narrative also gives him a lot of autonomy, which I find major bc of how disabled characters are usually treated in media. I like that he largely gets to decide what happens to him and when.
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
he acts very "irrational" during s1 and s3, but it makes sense considering his disability took away the soccer his life revolved around, and with it his will to live. as a disabled and mentally ill person who's hurt others a lot due to my issues, his whole thing is all viscerally relatable
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
ichinose's s1 narrative is lackluster but his s3 narrative puts a lot of things about his character into perspective. he's deeply in denial about his disability. he avoids this truth to the EXTREME. his first instincts are always to ommit and lie. these are all symptoms of how immense his grief is.
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
so for me as long as a character is fun and interesting that's good enough reason for them to exist. honestly I'm p sure the only reason ichinose wasn't killed is bc they really wanted to write that s1 twist, so they wrote that first and then everything else around that
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
like yeah he doesn't really serve any bigger narrative purpose; he's basically just a "fluff" character who's just there to add flavor, but then so are others like tsunami and. well. I'm kind of unhealthily obsessed with that guy.
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
but also I do think his character is fascinating even if not well utilized in the narrative. he's one of the deepest, most morally gray characters but it's hard to GET him unless you've experienced the grief of being disabled and mentally ill and understand that his character is all about that
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
the fucking trauma he gave her is the reason she stopped playing soccer and they really don't address that part properly at all. imo ichinose should get the fuck away from her bc he's been nothing but a terrible friend to her..
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
first of all I do think they glossed over the traumatic impact of ichinose's "death". it's really fucked up what he did to them and he never apologizes properly (at least not on screen.. unless it's in the games somewhere) especially considering he basically ruined aki's LIFE.
July 13, 2025 at 1:47 PM
a while ago I forced my sibling to watch ina11 w/ me and ichinose became her #1 fave and we've discussed his character a bunch so I feel compelled to defend ichinose's honor here in her stead (though I also do like him personally)
