This is with a logged-in account subscribed to the newspaper, by the way. Trying to read a specific article. Still gets shoved with ads, tracking and whatever the newspaper lets google put on their website.

You can't force an alternative to always be there nor do you need to become your decision in order to take it. Just flip the exception for the rule. You're allowed to be wrong and adjust your personal mix as time goes by.

Non-verbal clues may help with assessing if a person is having difficulties that they cannot yet express. Remote work reduces the amount of information we synchronously transmit and receive from other people and some people can enrich this asynchronously with docs/video, but others not so much.

Thanks for sharing 👍 Do you have any tips on how remote teams can share knowledge effectively? Specially when onboarding junior developers, there's some consensus that new devs are hampered by the reduced bandwidth of learning remotely.

Friendly reminder that there's power in positive boycotts. This is where you go beyond withholding money/time for some bad thing. Take that and spend it in some better alternative. This demonstrates in practice that doing better is possible and it's easier to maintain the boycott for much longer.

Too many engineers fixate on "but what we told it not to do that" when you look at the phrase and can feel how it provides a premise with a rule that's there to be broken as the narrative develops.
