the habits i built from my mother have transferred to the digital, my "sort later" documents folder in my dropbox full of one-off notes, schedules, grocery lists, story blurbs, letters to self, off the cuff journals, etc. has almost 600 notepad docs in it. and i realistically only need like 50

which sounds pretentious, but it's a very useful way to process how I perceive it. it's not just about language, it doesn't just help explain how you see art as communicative, it necessitates the human element of art to derive *anything* from what we see in creation.

in basic semiotic terms I would say the iconography is synthetic, the symbols are incidental (there is no gradient of interesting intended/unintended meaning that a human could produce, it's all unintended), and the indexical qualities are a lie (no human brush or perspective made it)

it's easier to describe AI as "soulless" theft, but you can also say most of its meaning is amalgamated with no intent. it lacks the components that would let you read the human behind the brush or lens and at best only offers immitation that is both confusing and unsatisfying
