Since I can't actually count on Apple ever reading my report I just went ahead and added a step to my photo import shortcut that converts them to JPEG-XL and injects EXIF data

Now I can easily pull my film photography stuff into Photos and have the Photos app display camera, lens, location etc.

Figured out the crutch of the issue and filed a Radar, the only difference between these two image files is compression
Apple bug report titled: "Incorrect (inverted) rendering of greyscale ZIP/deflate compressed TIFF files" The description reads: "When viewing greyscale .TIFF files through Preview and Photos, it is possible for them to render inverted when the compression scheme is set to ‘ZIP/Deflate encoding’. This issue does not occur on non-compressed images. It seems from a glance that the “Photometric Interpretation” field is being ignored in these cases. This occurs throughout the Apple ecosystem, including iOS and iPadOS. The attached ‘zip-deflate.tiff’ file is an original image straight from a photo development lab, in Preview and throughout the Apple ecosystem this will render (incorrectly) as an inverted negative. The attached `none.tiff` file is the exact same image but with a compression scheme of none, using `tiffutil -none` and `tiffcrop -I black` to convert. The attached screenshots show a comparison between how these files render in preview (preview-comparison.png) and other consumer software (photoshop-comparison.png)" A screenshot of two image files, one looks normal whilst the other has inverted colors

reddit is shutting down public access to its API, if you don't already have a key you have to talk directly to a reddit employee to get access...

They are also making it clear they intend to revoke any existing keys that are being used for 3rd party clients (aka sideloaded Apollo)

I came across cherrilang.org recently and I really like it, it's a basic language that compiles to signed iOS shortcuts

I spent all morning trying to wrangle tree-sitter so I could have syntax highlighting for it in Zed
The Zed text editor with some basic Cherri-lang code that converts cooking times from an oven to an air fryer, with the finished iOS shortcut showing on the right with the exact same steps
