Curious if Jamie Dimon stands by his argument that people should “get over it” because President Trump’s tariffs are good for national security.

The funniest part of the new tariffs is they’ve removed the de minimis exemption for small packages, even from Canada. If a mom sends a birthday gift from Windsor to Detroit they’ve gotta pay 25% tariffs on it lol. Just unimaginable stupidity.

I've recently been talking a bit about how difficult it is to carefully check even well-written mathematics. I want to try to explain something about this by telling the story of some errors in the literature that (in part) led to the two papers below. 1/n

Did everything feel a bit more mathematical this morning? That's because 2025 is a perfect square ✅!

Yes, 2025 is 45² = (1+2+...+9)².

It's the first square year since 1936, and the next one is 2116.

But that's not all… read on ⬇️👀

Babies are small.

Macroeconomies are big.

Put 'em together and you get an absolutely fascinating paper from Claudia Goldin.

TLDR: Economic growth that outpaces social growth can dramatically lower fertility rates.

This is the first time since ~late 2021 where California's economy is growing faster than both the national average and Texas' economy (though slight caveat that Texas' slowdown is partially just due to slower growth in oil & gas)

U.S. Economy Is Doing What Few Others Are: Getting More Productive

In economics, editors, referees, and authors often behave as if a published paper should reflect some kind of authoritative consensus.

As a result, valuable debate happens in secret, and the resulting paper is an opaque compromise with anonymous co-authors called referees.

What is an important fact about the world that you wish more people would know?

Here is my answer: If we rely on the best data, many of us can save a child's life.
