My husband took administrative leave in April from a job he loved—long-term planning for genetics research (including biodiversity) in the Forest Service. It’s such a terrible loss of expertise. It’ll take generations to rebuild the administrative capacity for this sort of resource management.

That’s barely (or not even) 2 years ago. Not much of a measure of change over time.
