I don't post much, but I'm not a bot or a plant--I'm here to follow the folks I used to follow and learn from on the other place. English professor; university administrator; lucky blue-state dweller. Trying to be a better fascist-opposer.
When I can't sleep sometimes I plan menus in my head

I hope you're better soon! Does *reading* about cooking work at all?

I’m glad I’m not the only one who appreciates those!

My spouse’s lips turn blue in the cold; it’s kind of scary.

Came here for this.

My 93 year old mother is sick with the flu 4 hours away from me and man I could use some magical thinking. Hope you feel better soon

Berkeley was rife with these guys, scribbling their thoughts maniacally on the back of a napkin in an espresso bar

This thread is truly lovely. For some reason it's the most hopeful thing I've recently read.

May it go well, Seth!

“Like”= on my goodness, glad you’re safe.

"A building from where the boats leave"?

Interesting! I wasn't aware of this current trend. 50s lesbian pulp was so IMPORTANT when I was a graduate student in the 80s/90s; dissertations were being written about it. Hard for me to recapture what any of that felt like.

If you feel like sharing the suit when you've found it, that would be inspiring!

"If you use it as a dialogic thinking space where you externalities thought" wtaf is he talking about?

I miss the oldfashioned radiators of my youth; there was a sort of metal can that you could fill with water and hang on them to create a rudimentary humidfier. Also I miss their clanking and whistling sounds that were somehow reassuring.

I have the same issue! Rn the relative humidity in my house is 28%, which is barely life-sustaining, but because I also have a damp problem in wetter weather, I can't get my mind around a humidifier. (Also they're a pain to clean.)

Whenever I've looked at Discover, it consists largely of posts from people I already follow, which is frustrating. Am I doing something wrong?

Yes

Unless you are an educator, I recommend not making assertions about what in relation to this situation is hard.

I’m so sorry

Living through the breaking of so many things is horrible.

You know better than I, but my understanding is that there are, mostly, no (more) copy editors

But all vaguely disgusting

Maybe at 60+ I’m too old to be heartbroken by how disappointing politicians—elected representatives of the people—turn out to be, but here I am
