What a lovely day for the @uonsoe.bsky.social open day. Really good to have met so many prospective #ITT #TeacherTraining applicants.

If you're thinking about how you can #GetIntoTeaching this may help you think through your choices.

Today saw launch of our subject knowledge enhancement programme. 4 rooms of #ITT beginning #historyteacher s engaging in discussion on EQs linked to C20th & Partition. A wonderful display of history geekery 🤩

And homemade #CakeyFriday from a group member who hasn't baked since yr9 food tech!👏🏻

Totally brilliant day with the #ITT #historyteacher s @uonsoe.bsky.social developing classroom presence and communication for our ITaP and watching some incredible microteaching -lots to learn but great foundations to build upon.

Topped off with a fab #CakeyFriday - homemade and not by me!

Currently reading 'When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit', by the inimitable Judith Kerr, with my 8-year-old. They watch Newsround every day at school, and this book is proving an excellent vehicle for providing a 'safe space' where they can ask the questions they have about their own world and time. 1/2

Good to be out on campus for a tour thinking about the development of the landscape we now know as University Park, considering how we use local landscapes to bring environment and climate histories into the curriculum.

Great to see so many people at @uonsoe.bsky.social #SIG exploring the English Countryside from 1800 with Dr Sarah Holland @uonhumanities.bsky.social & our Manuscripts and Special Collections team, in the Weston Gallery at Lakeside Arts. How can we bring the local environment into the classroom?

It is vital that #historyteacher s continue to make the case that history is an evolving discipline - as we apply new lenses, reconsider (or even discover) source material to derive new interpretations.

And on top of all of that we've learnt a lot from each other in paired and group work, reflected on pedagogical approaches that were being modelled by tutors, coped with a slew of paperwork AND undertook a shocking activity involving a coprolite.

Thankfully this all ended with #CakeyFriday 4/5

We've met an #ECT #alumni, our @uconn.bsky.social #NEAG MA teacher colleagues who are working alongside us at some points this semester, and critically our #mentors who will be working with us during a first day in school. 3/5

Wow what a week the @uonsoe.bsky.social #ITT #historyteacher s have had as we've begun our journey towards becoming a teacher together. We've thought about our preconceptions around effective history teaching, influences on the curriculum, role of textbooks and examinations...1/5

Good examples of how post Industrial Britain sought to address pollution, energy use, protection of countryside etc. Could help build agency & galvanise to action. An important orientation for children's historical understanding addressing @1972shp.bsky.social PATHS principles 4&5. 2/2

Many of us involved in #historyteacher #TeacherEducation have been keen to see subject, & distinctive nature of our discipline, re-centred in the recent focus on instructional coaching & core-practices in schools. It was brilliant, therefore, to read 'Secondary History in Action'. 1/

Engage with feeds relevant to your area and use their # s to get your posts seen by the right people (eg. in pic). Don't be afraid to repost yourself - the lack of algorithm means your post doesn't stay 'live' as it does elsewhere. Generously like and repost and comment other people's posts.
