Tried to sell my soul for the ability to neatly wrap gifts, but the Devil told me that my soul wasn't *that* good.

Ik ga een shirt maken met dat chagrijnige hoofd van Schopenhauer en de tekst: "Geluk is een keuze." 😎

I'm replaying The Witcher (2007). It gets off to a slow start, there's a lot of rough edges, and it's now really weird to walk through a world populated by identical looking people because they just refuse the same skins again and again... but it's still a very good and engaging game! The way […]

Started a new #ttrpg campaign, using the game 3:16 by Gregor Hutton. I GM'ed it around ten years ago or so, now I'm a player. You're all human soldiers sent away from paradise earth with the mission of killing every alien in the galaxy. Every single one. You're maybe, just maybe, not the good […]

Question for people working in analytic #philosophy. Do you think that analysing concepts in terms of distances between possible worlds adds clarity?

It seems to me that our grasp of the geometry of modal space is significantly more tenuous than our pre-analytic grasp of concepts like […]

I don't understand music and it drives me nuts! If you understand music, please help me. So, Mozart K545 here. I think I understand what is going on in the first few measures here: after a page of C major, we take a step into G minor, the dominant, it […]

I'm a big fan of Thomas #Pynchon, but his new book, Shadow Ticket, didn't do it for me. On the small scale he's still brilliant: snappy writing, intelligent observations, lovely details. But one feels one has seen it all before, and it doesn't cohere into a bigger whole. I totally agree with the […]

Gestemd.

I made a video on LLMs called 'Rise of the Description Machines'! It is empathically NOT about LLMs generating false answers, or 'hallucinating'. (It's not important to my analysis, but I think no LLM has ever said something false.)

The deception I'm talking of is instead, first, the companies […]

Ik ben vannacht live op Radio 1 om over mijn Oneindigheid-boek te praten. Anderhalf uur lang! Met muzikale intermezzo's. Enige nadeel: het is van 2:00 am tot 3:30 am. 🙈

I finally got to the secret message that was hidden in my little paper umbrella, but now I don't know what it means! 😕 (Although Google Lens thinks it might have something to do with a roller skate center.)

When you want to turn on the dishwasher, but it's not quite full, so you're feeling just a slight bit of environmental guilt, and then you insert the last few things extra inefficiently so it *looks* more full than it really is, and you congratulate yourself with a job well done and turn the […]

That Kimmel monologue was fine, but (a) boy did he kiss some corporate ass, and (b) we're in trouble if free speech is to be guarded by the likes of Disney.

I just read some reports that show that in 2024, Dutch police officers shot their guns 214 times. (All of them together, I mean.)

Of those 214 shots, 194 were to kill a grievously wounded animal.

Of the remaining 20 shots, 8 were shots at an aggressive animal.

So there were -- I assume -- 12 […]

In two days my book comes out! (A Dutch book about the philosophy of infinity).

I'm REALLY NERVOUS! But about what? Reviews, most likely? Not sales, I don't think so. But I'm not even sure whether there will be reviews, or when they would appear...
