I can't but awe at the skills needed to paint a compelling nighttime landscape. The luminosity of the full moon gives this scene "At the park gate"(1878) painting by John Atkinson Grimshaw an incredible aura.

These sandy forests are covered with 5 to 15 centimeters of moss, small grass blades, and the occasional mushroom.
Under them, the whole soil is sand, not unlike that of a beach! Probably product of the penultimate ice age (Saale glaciation).

I don't know if it happens to you too, but a bit of texture in a pure black and white image makes it way more interesting and eye catching. This is something I should work more on.
