Anyway. This is from the prohibition-era New Orleans gangster drama I've been working on. Think enemies to lovers office romance with a morally black twist. 😅

The text reads as follows: She lowered the gun to his chest, her eyes wild and clouded with grief and liquor-fueled rage. “Get back,” she rasped, squinting at her employer through the smoke. “I swear I’ll shoot!” He didn’t bother to laugh this time. “You won’t.” His steps didn’t falter, and in seconds he was standing close enough that she could see the stubble covering his chin. The pistol’s muzzle dug into the lapel of his freshly pressed jacket. “Do it,” he challenged, looking down on her impatiently. A wave of nausea nearly swept Mia off her feet, but she held fast. “I hate you,” she spat. “Shooting you dead would do the world a favor.” “Then pull the trigger.” “I will!” He took another step closer, forcing her elbow back as their chests collided, the firearm wedged awkwardly between them now. Despite the choking heat, the burning room seemed to fade to a dull, flickering haze as his amber eyes held hers. He shook his head with an air of infuriating nonchalance, reaching out to brush the tears from her cheek with the pad of his thumb. “Your hands are trembling, sha.”
