Gears of War 4 started with some RPG elements in multiplayer( Horde mode) and it continued in Gears 5 with Horde and Escape multiplayer modes.

People just hate. I mean hate. Hate is a terrible, powerful feeling. Like you said, an actor was cast to play a fictional character in a videogame. It isn't real. It's a video game. If you don't care for it, then don't game or watch it.
