I went to the Art Museum yesterday. The section of contemporary Vietnamese paintings worked in lacquers is amazing. And of course the propaganda art is something else!

We’ve come on to Hanoi, so here are some impressions from the last couple of days.

As final stops for a holiday go, this isn’t *terrible*…

Yes, mate! Three days later… still pretty ouch!

Well, despite the rainforest being so rainy, we’ve had the most *fabulous* week in it. A real privilege to be so close to orangutans, proboscis monkeys and a plethora of other beasties. Slightly sad not to have seen a porcupine or a leopard, and even sadder to have experienced a fire ant’s bite!

I often think a large benefit of travelling is escaping the British weather. With a week of hiking in the rain forest ahead of me, I’m not sure this is entirely the kind of escape I was hoping for…

A two day workshop on academic quality design, held at the fabulous new Lancaster Deakin campus in Bandung, Indonesia is making me reflect deeply on the importance of demonstrating quality in TNE and the difficulty of satisfying multiple stakeholders.

I’d say this dog extends solidarity in the “dogs do no harm” stakes. But actually, he’s lying on my knee and preventing me getting another glass of wine. It’s about the harmiest Friday harm he can conceive of.

The advocacy of alumni in promoting the benefits of #TNE is so powerful!

I’m at #Middlesex University in Dubai, helping the British Council launch its report on the sustainability of TNE in Egypt, Qatar and UAE. It’s such a delight to be at this wonderful campus I’ve heard so much about!

We arrived in Dubai at 2am (by the time we were checked into hotel etc). Sadly, the room is a city view, but I think you can just about make out the Burj from our balcony. I’ve a little bit of work today, but also going to promenade along the seafront, to walk off some jet lag.

“Sometimes student organisations become notorious. But that’s just youthful exuberance” Mr Divine Eden Kwadzodeh argues against excluding students when their message is difficult to hear. I feel this is a message we could all hear #GGAfrica24 #GoingGlobalAfrica

Divine Eden Kwadzodeh, from the All African Students Union advocating for the inclusion of students in every aspect of institutional governance and quality design - music to my ears! #GGAfrica24 #GoingGlobalAfrica

A fascinating panel of student strategic views about the development of partnerships that equip young people for change begins with setting out what ambitions for the continent. #GGAfrica24 #GoingGlobalAfrica

This wonderful visualisation of evolution of higher education enhancement and transformation is applicable far beyond Africa. It captures beautifully the self-reflective, virtuous spiral of enhancement and the non-linear nature of transformative change in the system. #GGAfrica24 #GoingGlobalAfrica

An impressive panel discusses long term resilience, overcoming barriers and working in partnership in education across Africa. #GoingGlobalAfrica #GGAfrica2024

In particular, the critical importance of addressing gender imbalance - “I went to school without shoes, but education was important to my father. And now I am the first woman Vice Chancellor”. Powerful. Moving. True. #GGAfrica2024 #GoingGlobalAfrica

Vice Chancellor Professor Malata speaks passionately about the importance of increasing participation in compulsory education in Africa. The numbers speak for themselves. We cannot equip a population with higher skills if they don’t complete basic education. #GGAfrica2024 #GoingGlobalAfrica

Temilade Salami talks about the flaws of pedagogical approaches equipping students w knowledge & skills they don’t need. Instead, she urges, work with students to create education focussed on skills acquisition and problem based learning. Truly a universal message. #GGAfrica2024 #GoingGlobalAfrica

Mr Omolayo Adekola opens the plenary by saying how much he enjoys listening to older people reflect on their education. Sharp realisation he means people like me! He pleads “don’t tell young people what to think. Teach us *how* to think” - a message we need to hear! #GGAfrica2024 #GoingGlobalAfrica
