Long story short, this was it

Day 15 and last is misty and wet in the highlands. The final leg is classified as difficult in the Norwegian rating system (only such stretch in my trip). After 2 weeks having it as a distant goal, Lysefjord is shown on a junction sign and nothing else matters. Coming down to sea level

Still raining in the morning. Thanks to my previous efforts, trip end is only 38 km away and I have 2 full days. Day 14 will be a short one to get me to the last hut en route. Intermittent, occasionally strong rain across the rocky highlands and a relaxing evening in Litle Aurådal hut. Almost there

Day 13 was partly cloudy and unsettled in the highlands but the light was amazingly beautiful. The place too.
Everything got dark in the evening, including my mood as I went through some bleak looking hydro schemes. Got to Storsteinen hut literally as the rain started. It'd rain hard for hours

Day 12 finally brings the rain but nothing dramatic. The visit to the valleys takes me as low as 600 m where I hit a dirt road and the pine trees. Then it's up back to the highlands over very rocky, convoluted and spectacular terrain to end the day under cover. It's another good day to be inside

Day 11 starts clear & calm. I cross the last public road in my route on time for the breakfast buffet in Haukeliseter Fjellstue to verify the emotional importance of a good meal
A major event: I go below treeline! wary of trail conditions but it turns out fine
Skies darken, rain's coming. Hut night

Better light in the early morning following day for the camp pics

Day 10 as the Hardangervidda plateau gives way to the hills. Fair weather still but the forecast is for a turn that would bring rain for the rest of the week and the trip so I keep pushing hard while the conditions allow with yet another long, 40 km day. Intended goal to reach Lysefjord within reach
September 19, 2025 at 2:46 PM
Day 9 sticks to the sunny, breezy and cool weather pattern. Good hiking conditions that together with the easy terrain & good trails will take me again to a 40 km day, bringing me closer to meeting an ambitious goal.
Hardangervidda is spectacular in its vastness. Anglers come home after the weekend

Day 8 brings a dramatic change of scenery as my route leaves Skarvheimen and enters Hardangervidda, the largest wilderness highland plateau in Europe. Around the Hardanger ice fields, then south over endless, grassy highlands, mostly dry underfoot which enable a 40 km day. Happily back to camping

Finse has no public road access but it has a train station in the main east/west line around which a small settlement has developed including a stuffed DNT hut where I had sent a box with supplies for the 2nd week. Had a full rebuilding session including shower, laundry, dinner & a mat on the floor

It snowed again overnight and day 7 started feeling wintry. I couldn't be happier that I had decided to stay at the hut. It stayed overcast and chilly for most of the day.
Dramatic rock world across the pass north of Finse, where I arrived by mid afternoon for the first break in the trip
