Trump is bashing former DOJ official Lisa Monaco, who was instrumental in getting the TikTok law passed that will now see the app's control shift more toward Trump's allies

The attack on Monaco, who is at Microsoft, follows Trump singling out LinkedIn co-founder & MSFT board member Reid Hoffman

If you're trying to make sense of the FTC's settlement with Amazon, here's two data points:

1) Lina Khan, who chaired the agency when it brought the suit, is jeering the settlement

2) NetChoice, a trade group that counts Amazon as a member, is cheering the settlement

The tech industry has come out strongly against AB1064, warning in ads splattered across the web that it would stifle innovation in schools and in health care, hurting students and kids. Several groups have instead embraced SB243, a measure to boost transparency around AI companions

Hill Republicans tried to take up legislation targeting alleged bias in Google's email spam filter, but it went nowhere. The RNC filed an FEC complaint & a lawsuit over it, but both were dismissed

Now Trump's FTC is warning tech giants it may take up the cause under federal law

Notably Trump is bashing Musk on his Truth Social account, and Musk is bashing Trump on his X

Meanwhile, here's the last time Trump mentioned Elon on X. This was last weekend!!

Democratic Sen. Warren today urged Treasury to investigate Musk's X for potentially violating sanctions by doing business with terrorist groups

Almost exactly 5 years ago, GOP Sen. Cruz sent a similar letter asking Treasury to probe Jack Dorsey's Twitter over sanctions claims. Politics!

As the FTC-Meta trial kicks off, tech trade group NetChoice is claiming the agency "approved" Facebook’s Instagram & WhatsApp deals in 2012 & 2014

This is false & misleading. The FTC declined to intervene, but that's not the same as approval

See the FTC's letter to FB from '12:

There you have it, 3 Republicans on FTC

Notably a 50-46 vote, likely an indication of the widespread Democratic backlash over Trump's firing of the agency's 2 Democratic commissioners
April 10, 2025 at 7:09 PM
There it is: Trump again extends the TikTok ban deadline by 75 days with another executive order. And he again mentions the possibility of it factoring into his administration’s tariff talks with China

Bedoya/Slaughter lawsuit against Trump twice tries to use the words of his FTC Chair, Ferguson, against him:

1) notes Ferguson answered a Humphrey's Executor Q by saying only SCOTUS can overturn its own precedent

2) cites Ferguson comments about "benefits" of dissenting views

Inbox: Slaughter and Bedoya officially sue Trump admin. over their firings from the FTC in D.C. District Court

In response to a few FTC follow-up questions, a White House spox just shared the text of Trump's dismissal letter to Slaughter (and Bedoya)

I've seen references reported but to my knowledge the full thing is not yet in public domain, so here goes:

Speaking of FTC website removals... the agency has removed Bedoya and Slaughter from its list of active commissioners and placed them on its formers list www.ftc.gov/about-ftc/co...
March 20, 2025 at 11:34 PM
FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson, who had already said he thinks POTUS has power to fire commissioners at his agency, issues statement saying he has "no doubts" about constitutionality of Trump's dismissal of Bedoya and Slaughter
