Remember how you thought you didn’t like maple syrup until your wife got you to try the real thing? That, but with turkey cooked by someone who knows how to cook turkey.

Right? Sleep should be unconstrained! (Full disclosure: my own kids actually never had official bedtimes! But it’s not like we let them stay up all night, either. 😆)

Very much not ok. Trying hard to handle it all without letting go of the things we enjoy and the people we love. We appreciate you and hope that Canada can continue to model some level of general sanity for the world.

Bedtime is the actual worst.

Thank you so much!

That’s fantastic! Can you point me toward where I can find the spreadsheet? I’ve used it in the past but wasn’t able to find it this year. Also have a few of this year’s books I might add. Wonder if it’s worth adding my favorite shifter romances, just on principle.

I like C best, then A. B looks muddy and dirty to me.

IKEA! Just some oak and some pine and a handful of Norsemen.

The ritual sorting of the Halloween candy is one of the things I really miss about having kids at home!

That’s by Andy Weir…

That’s so absurd. I’m a good enough typist that I can easily compose on a keyboard, but that didn’t happen by accident. I paid actual money for typing classes because I needed it as a job skill. This was back in the dark ages, I mean ‘80s, and I’d already hunted and pecked my way through college.

It’s set on a world with multiple sentient species, none of them exactly human. I read the main characters as basically dragons, but ymmv. I saw in a comment somewhere that Martha Wells has said they’re avian. Whatever, though, the books are fantastic!

This looks like so much fun! I really hope you can do a west coast trek at some point.

Wouldn’t it actually be ideal if almost all Americans died in hospice care? I’m not seeing a problem here, at least not in your first paragraph.

Thank you! Gonna go take a look at it now. ❤️

I would love to know what the book series is, too — if you don’t mind revealing it here!

I like “factlet.”

Most yogurt recipes call for the milk to be scalded and then cooled, even when using pasteurized milk. And it really does seem to make a difference— I’ve tried just heating the milk to incubation temperature and the yogurt doesn’t set up as well. I don’t understand why but 🤷‍♀️

… Also, fuck that nurse who got your age wrong by 10 years and then was mad at you for correcting her.

Moi, holding a 29-year-grudge against people whose names I’ll never know? Yes. Anyway, that’s just one of the reasons my second child was born at home, with a midwife and doula in attendance. Oh, right, and I was 37 at the time, hence the connection. …

…I was trying to get some sleep at like 3am, and someone opened my door to check up on my roommate, and then a whole bunch of them stood in the hallway right outside the open door, with a bright light shining into the room, and yakked about their favorite resale shops for half an hour. …

L&D nurses can be incredibly mean and/or inconsiderate. I was fortunately spared the mean ones when giving birth (although I knew some who were friends of friends & I couldn’t believe the nasty way they spoke about their patients). But after I gave birth to my son, at a highly regarded hospital…

They’re frozen crustless pb&j sandwiches, sealed on the edges. You pull one out of the freezer, throw it in your kid’s lunchbox, and it’s thawed and (nominally) edible by lunchtime. I confess I’ve never tried one, but deep fried as part of a state fair burger stunt? Sure, I’d give it a shot.
