I've since googled and dog hackles are along their spine even to their tail so I feel less like my brain's fill-in-the-blank machine is irreperably broken, but I'm humbled nonetheless 😭💀

-> the word ankle ends in -kle
-> I had been imagining hackles as something above the ankle, maybe related to dogs' back legs??? (no hackles there either)
-> this has been in my brain for at least two decades unexamined
