It's unlikely that drugs that target TrkB would be particularly helpful in treating neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's or Alzheimer's, but there has been some discussion about treating stroke victims or general age related cognitive decline. We don't really know yet.

I hope the results will be replicated and published soon. Previous studies have demonstrated how OXT and 5-HT2C oligomers can interact.

My data suggested these complexes were reduced in the hippocampus of rat depression models. With some evidence that Ketamine may restore 5-HT2C/OXTR interaction.

If everything goes to plan I'll be working in the Aguzzi lab in Zurich Switzerland, studying prion disease. It's a fair bit removed from my interests in psychiatry, but I'm really excited to learn new techniques and branch out a bit more.
