Agreed. It's not a good look whatsoever. The way Aaron cut the clip doesn't help. Still, you would think that people could recognize the applause wasn't for the gnat comment, especially since you could see the sailors actively deflating as Trump spoke.

This was in Norfolk. Grooming standards are a bit less strict when not on deployment.

Just a heads up, the applause was for the line before where Trump promised that the sailors would get get backpay once the shutdown ends. Now, he did call it the "Democrat shutdown", but they were clearly applauding for getting paid. They didn't have the same response to the gnat comment.

They were applauding Trump assuring them that they would be getting their backpay once the shutdown ends.

They were applauding the previous line about being paid once the shutdown ends. They didn't really react to the gnat line as strongly.

The line before the clip was Trump promising that the sailors would be getting their money once the shutdown ends. Of course, that's how it's always worked with shutdowns.

They weren't clapping about the Dems. You can literally see some of the sailors forcing smiles and losing them as he starts to go into that talking point.

Been seeing all kinds of sketchy stuff. Someone from the Guardian interviewed a friend who said he was "leftist", but they started drifting apart in high school and hadn't spoken in years. And who knows what a Mormon would consider to be "leftist".
