An optimistic freethinker, her behavior is often considered unorthodox by others. She found herself at odds with the stoic, pragmatic Squall, a mercenary whom she hied to aid her efforts, but the pair eventually came to understand and even care for one another. During their journey to defeat the sorceress Edea who plunged the world into chaos, Rinoa unwittingly inherited the same dark powers they fought against. Though almost overwhelmed by anxiety and fear, she opened her heart to Squall and confessed her wish to stay by his side. Yet she could not escape the knowledge that she might fall under the thrall of another sorceress— Ultimecia, who wought to merge all time into one moment where only she existed. Seeing no other way to keep her friends from harm, Rinoa consented to be cryogenically frozen and sealed away. Unable to accept this decision, Squall and his friends rescued her from this fate. Together again at last, the two finally understood the depth of their bond. In order to foil Ultimecia and be free from the threat of her meddling for good, the group devised one last plan to defeat the wicked sorceress. and the pièce de résistance
A mysterious young girl who has lost much of her memory, Gaia places the utmost importance on her own will. She is loath to betray her convictions yet speaks tenderly to those she trusts. As far back as she could remember, Gaia knew there was another person inside her. She called it her "faerie" and eventually found herself under its control. She would first make her mark int he pages of history as an antagonist who assailed the Warrior of Light and Ryne. Later, after reasserting control over her own mind, she joined the Warrior of Light's quest in the hope of learning more about the voice inside her. Though their investigations continued for some time, they bore little fruit. Gaia grew impatient and worried, b ut the ever-optimistic Ryne would not allow her to lose faith in the future. Slowly, Gaia's stubborn personality began to soften, and the two began to warm to each other. As their search approached in climax, Gaia learned that the true identity of her faerie was none other than the Ascian Mitron. As he attempted to merge with her, Gaia watched in helpless horror as her memories of Ryne were destroyed piece by piece. Ryne, meanwhile, refused to give up on her friend and called out to Gaia, who broke free and regained mastery of herself. These trials deepened their bond even further, and the two resolved to look to the future together. Gaia, now freed from her past, sets out on a new journey to protect the hopes and dreams of others. Around her neck she wears a shard of unmelting ice, matching the one worn by her dear friend. Two images are shown below of Gaia and Ryne together.
