It is your division. We are in the "Canyon" region (which has one A-Division, one B-Division, two C-, D- and E- Divisions and one Rookie Division). I have made it one season into the B division before getting immediately relegated.

Another favorite part: I think this clip shows how Preminger's assurance & craft helps this kind of movie: Stewart stepping aside to reveal Gazzara, who then walks to the stand. The camera pushes in on them rather than cuts, then Scott & Stewart deftly trade places after the reverse shot of Gazzara

baby Ben Gazzara and Lee Remick were really great. Obviously it helps that they both are filmed really gorgeously. Remick's role in particular is pretty crazy to see in 1959. Others read it differently but I feel like the movie acknowledged her flirtatiousness without blaming her assault on it

The most arresting scene in the movie is Haruko's assault by the three drunk sailors. The low angle as she's trapped behind the bed, the sailors' animalistic barbarism, the flip in perspective after the punch, the nightmarish camera spin from the ceiling. really really powerful stuff

Pigs and Battleships (1961): In the first 10 minutes of the movie, you can instantly tell that you are witnessing an iconic fit. apparently this movie helped popularize the sukajan "souvenir jacket" among japanese youth and I can understand why. its a sick fucking jacket

Jurassic Park (1993): Its so crazy watching this immediately after Jurassic World lol. It turns out the key to Jurassic Park is Steven Spielberg. Check out the camera movement, framing and blocking in this 45-second shot focused on a literal pile of shit. Colin Trevorrow simply can not do this

One other moment that I really liked was the slow deliberate pan across Mookie and Pino while Sal is flirting with and doting on Jade (who can blame him imo). For some reason the gliding camera just hits way harder than a typical reaction shot

There are so many crazy canted angles (the damn-near 45° angled sweaty close-ups look so good on the big screen) but my favorite is the one that happens immediately after Radio Raheem plays "Fight The Power" for the first time dietetically

Obviously the opening credits are god-tier but i had forgotten how distinctive the opening shot is. it starts as an extreme close up and ends pulled all the way out looking at the street. Who knew that radio broadcast could be so visually interesting!

Stray Dog (1949): A pretty considerable amount of craft for a movie made in 1949 with a clearly limited budget. Almost like a silent movie in many of the montage sections. For example: the cabaret dancers running upstairs after the show and collapsing in overheated exhaustion on the green room floor
