A fae bard gift for my grandmother!

A white haired, pale fae is playing a tambura happily over a field of yarrow flowers. The illustration has a sunflower yellow border and a forget me not flower framing the side. The fairy has green clothes and ribbed yellow stocks. Her wings are reminiscent of a fly or dragonfly. Her hair is like a cloud in the sky, there are also three stars and a sun in the blue sky. The stars, sun, wings tips and the blush of the fae's skin are shimmery in person. The illustration is on cotton paper and a mix of watercolor and colored pencils. An oldie but a goodie

I think it turned out a tad too loose for my taste elastic length wise, but as the sketchbook gets thicker and full of glue-ins I think it will fit just right.
The now sticker decorate green sketchbook with it's black elastic band. The stickers are of a pigeon over a skull with a red gem in its mouth, a glittery cauldron, wildflowers, small colored pencils, a yellpw witch chick, a parasaur, a martes martes, a capybara with a big knife and orange on its head, a pretzel dragon, two potions - yellow and red, a yellow t rex, a cat head with a strawberry hat and a crying lemon with the caption "If life gives you lemons, cry" The pin on the elastic is of a black cat against a green background, cursing with cartoonish random symbol censorship. The binder clip is orange.

I ended up sewing the ends of the elastic together because i wasn't confident glue and paper will be able to hold it together.

My sketchbooks go through a lot with me so I had to double make sure it'll survive.
The inside of the sketchbook cover with the elastic pulled through the incisions. The two elastic ends are sewn together. You can also see the measurements at which the incisions were made - 5cm in and 5.5 cm down from the top of the cover. The same inside cover with the last page of the sketchbook glued overtop of it. The sketchbook is on top of a bunch of stickers.

At first i considered sewing the band into the hardcover but after consulting the old sketchbook's construction I decided to emulate it.

Measured out the elastic and where I wanted it to enter the cover
A piece of folded over piece of elastic by the short edge of the sketchbook. It's 46cm although I ended up using a longet piece because i wanted to sew together the edges. The back of the sketchbook with the elastic pulled through the incisions I made into the cover. The back of the old small sketchbook for reference on the elastic.

New year new sketchbook. Time to customize.
My last sketchbook had an elastic and I think that really helped it not lose pages as it got worn and torn, so I've decided to add one to my new sketchbook.

I'll try to explain how I added the band below.

Overtop a green craft cutting board lay two sketchbooks and other supplies - new A4 plain green hardcover and a smaller sticker covered used sketchbook. The other supplies are a mechanical pencil, tapestry needle black embroidery thread small scissors a pack of sewing elastic band and a craft paper envelope full of stickers. The supplies didn't end up accurate to what I used. The green sketchbook from the previous image now partially covered by stickers, now sporting a black elastic band and the binder clip and pin that were on the small sketchbook in the previous image.

Warmly lit photograph of a sticker covered sketchbook places askew over a green cutting mat. The sketchbook is kept shut by a beige elastic, the elastic has an orange binder clip and a cat pin on it. Next to the sketchbook are my favorite sketch materials a thick mechanical pencil, white with a hamsrer and gibli soot sticker visible on it, and a calligraphy marker pen. There's a kneaded eraser and two small dinosaur toys in frame as well. On top of the sketchbook there's also a pressed wild flower.
