I completely agree with this.
I also believe that prices for many things, like this, are exceeding the take-home salary of many people in this current age. I don't know how to reconcile the stagnation of wages with the cost of many things - like RPG books.

I would offer one suggestion:
If, while suffering a penalty due to bring frightened or panicked you succeed in a check, the penalty is reduced by one (to a maximum of -1).
Bravery is also a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it becomes.
