We are preservation timberframers, specializing in covered bridge, steeple, and truss repair. We also cut new frames, repair any type of timberframed structure, and jack and move structures of any size.
I want to show some pictures, but even more than that, I want to write more than a sentence or two about some arcane or nerdy little detail that I really care about. I’m not shooting for the lowest common denominator or to grab attention, I want to write for the folks who might be interested.

There’s even a character limit on replies! I hate the idea that one must be so succinct, that every bit of information conveyed must be a little grabby soundbite, not too long or people’s tv conditioned minds will gloss over and tune out.

I came here from instagram and I really want to like bluesky but I just can’t. Honestly, I hate it. It has nothing to do with bluesky as a platform, I like the how and why of its build, I just can’t stand the way information is packaged.

I had just seen this! I am so appreciative and impressed. This sort of action is exactly what we need to make a change. Just going out to vote every two years is far from enough.

Re-insulating the ceiling where we were working, using cellulose. That’s it for now. We will be installing new tower and steeple roofs in the spring.

I haven’t found historic records yet, but considering that the joinery method of the timber frame is square rule, it’s not earlier than 1800. The turn of the century was when square rule was widely adopted. If I had to guess I’d say the house is ~1820. I’ll let you know when I find out!

Yes, and it’s been incredibly helpful. The next big job we get where we open up the roof like this I’m going to buy a 50’x60’ or so free span cover, which we’ll use just like the Europeans do. It’s such a smart idea, and makes things so much more efficient.

The hooks on the back are to set it on the blade? How much can you carry in it when it’s on the blade?
