Many states, like Wisconsin, require that all vermiculite be tested and handled as asbestos only by a licensed asbestos abatement company. Testing attic vermiculite for asbestos WILL NOT indicate iF the material is safe. A lab can't detect what it is not testing for. See WI DHS ruling.

It's not too difficult for an experienced crew. While there may be trace amounts of vermiculite that has fallen down into the wall assemblies air sampling after remediation indicates it is not present in the living space.
