Olrox may have turned Mizrak due to selfishness, but Olrox offered him a way out and Mizrak took it.

To me, in his final moments Mizrak may have well been literally asking Olrox to save him. There may not have been onscreen consent for a turning, but to a queer watcher, Olrox saved Mizrak!

Media isn’t always explicit but Mizrak’s story was incredibly liberating and meaningful to me.

Many people seem to be assuming it is not what Mizrak wanted. But when all is said and done, Mizrak finally sees the devil and believes he is destined for hell. Whether or not he actually is doesn’t matter, because Mizrak is afraid he is going BECAUSE of who he is, despite everything.

Mizrak loves Olrox, and he is ashamed of it. He needs to convince himself he fears Olrox, calling him the devil, because he fears himself and his own identity as a gay man.

Where some confusion seems to be arising is the second to last scene where Olrox finally turns Mizrak.

But Mizrak rejects Olrox repeatedly throughout the series BECAUSE he feels shame for his queerness and sexual expression. The church in Castlevania has quite similar homophobic beliefs as that of our church irl, which Juste actually references in one scene, where he discusses chastity.

This may be due to some viewers simply not experiencing religious trauma — which, kudos. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone haha 🫶🏻

While I think it is very possible a S3 arc may explore Mizrak’s need to reconcile his lifelong(?) faith with his new status as vampire (and would LOVE to see the studio explore this because they have hit every beat thusfar), I think people are failing to recognize the complexity of the characters.

I frequently see comments from people who are upset with Olrox for turning Mizrak, upset with Mizrak for rejecting Olrox repeatedly throughout the show, or just assuming Mizrak is about to be pissed at Olrox for turning him. I think there’s a thematic misunderstanding of their characters occurring.
