Something about those mostly empty rooms, half the time the people in them feel vaguely threatening even though it's just a trivia game. I think the NPCs would give vague flavor text about being trapped in these rooms because they couldn't solve the trivia questions? Which added a lot to the vibe.

No joke, I think the lowkey strange and unexplained/unexplainable illustrations and environments in Mind Maze primed my child brain for loving richly detailed weird fiction that doesn't bother to explain itself.

Did this real quick for a "6 movies to get to know me" thing, and am reminded I still need to get hard copies of Master and Commander and Skinamarink.

I've barely skimmed it and this has already been wildly helpful. Thank you for having actual maps of Beechey Island and its surroundings! Love that I ended up with the creepiest cover edition too lol

My word count after just 4 days is looking nice. A lot of it is probably garbage but at least it's my garbage and it's been fun to write so far!

I try to branch out of my usual genres a decent amount, so i picked up a pretty well-reviewed looking thriller/crime novel, and this keeps giving me a "where was your editor?" vibe, but this is the worst instance so far. Someone should have caught this, it's barely 40 pages apart!

Just learned that Thomas Eakins who painted The Gross Clinic in 1875 later did a sort of companion piece called The Agnew Clinic (1889) and it's a cool peek into how quickly accepted medical techniques advanced in a short time frame (people should have believed Lister sooner though!!).

Made some tomato and ginger soup for lunch. Will probably be experimenting to see what else does well with a little pop of ginger in it.

Just remembered the thing going around to show what your full banner image is--mine is an illustration of Herbert Ponting (the photographer of Scott's fatal Terra Nova Expedition) trying to not get eaten by an orca.
