We stand with the people of Los Angeles, everyone trying to keep their neighbors and communities safe, and with our partners on the ground who work every day to enhance community safety and justice. [15/15]

Our union unequivocally condemns this state repression and campaign of terror. We call for Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be abolished, righting the tremendously dangerous overreach of the post-9/11 era. [14/15]

The current mayor of New York is trying to install an ICE office on Rikers Island, as the NYPD simultaneously ramps up criminal charges against delivery drivers, the majority of whom are immigrants. [13/15]

In NYC, as in LA, ICE has been detaining people at their routine court appearances and check-ins and holding them in appalling, inhumane conditions. When Congressmembers Velasquez and Espaillat attempted to inspect the holding cells in the building, ICE unlawfully denied them entry. [12/15]

In addition to Los Angeles, the Vera Union represents workers in Louisiana, where over 7,000 people detained by ICE are held in facilities where they are subjected to physical and mental violence, medical abuse, unsanitary conditions, and continuous violation of legal rights. [11/15]

With members coast to coast, the Vera Union sees every day how this administration works to instill fear and damage all of our communities. [10/15]

The president has set up a military occupation of a major American city. The actions of this administration put every one of us in harm’s way. The people giving these orders, and those who carry them out, must be held accountable if any part of American democracy is to survive. [9/15]

This is blatant authoritarianism. Immigrant Americans are afraid to go to work, to school, to court—to leave their homes. People exercising their constitutional rights are being shot at close range with rubber bullets, tear-gassed, and arrested. [8/15]

In response, the Trump administration moved not only to mobilize troops to Los Angeles, but to authorize their deployment anywhere in the country where protests against ICE are “occurring or likely to occur.” [7/15]

The people of Los Angeles responded, exercising their First Amendment right to stand against raids of local homes and businesses, the detention and separation of children and families, and concerted efforts to instill fear across the country. [6/15]

They detained Angelenos, some of whom have already been deported, and injured many who stood against them, including David Huerta, president of SEIU California, who was detained and hospitalized. [5/15]

After weeks of the federal government explicitly targeting immigrants at federal courthouses across the country for detention and expedited deportation—punishing people for complying with the law—ICE escalated its actions with raids and arrests at schools and worksites. [4/15]

Our union represents workers in Los Angeles, immigrant workers, and workers who partner with organizations fighting for justice in the county and across California, including the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). [3/15]

The Vera Institute of Justice Union (ALAA–UAW 2325) stands with our partners and allies against the deployment of the National Guard and Marines in an escalation of violence against protestors in Los Angeles opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) terror. [2/15]

We condemn the layoffs and demand that management recognize our union immediately so we can bargain over job transfers and recall rights for impacted staff, as well as other protections.
