These were taken last night before the Mac and cheese congealed but I think it all turned out pretty good! May have overcooked the Mac just a smidge but not enough that it won’t still be good I don’t think.

One of my favorites instances is from Fishseeker which was both a stage setting and fish lore moment (which I also love sneaking), because the reference to the Junkmonger actually gives you a rough time frame for what time of night the fic would take place (no later than 2 AM)!
The cool, salt-filled air of the Skull Valley snapped B’runi back to her senses a bit. She took a deep breath, the familiar scent of the sea allowing her to recenter a bit. She always felt more at home by the water. Hoisting her fishing rod over her shoulder, B’runi trudged down the stone path toward the docks. The port was fairly quiet, all things considered. Aleport had not seen quite as much boat traffic after sundown since Dalamud rendered Pharos Sirius completely useless. Not many sailors were willing to risk their ship and crew just to fly blind in these waters, especially this close to Sahagin territory. B’runi settled down on the wooden docks, casting her legs over the water. The stars speckled the sky above her, their celestial forms reflected in the dark sea below. Setting down her bag beside her, B’runi brought out a container of lugworms and put one on her fishing line. With a quick flick, she cast the line out into the deep waters and watched intently as she waited for a bite. She wasn’t expecting much at this time of night, maybe a goby or wahoo, perhaps a goosefish if she was lucky. The rumorous Junkmonger was supposedly active during these wee hours as well, though B’runi wasn’t sure her fishing rod would be able to handle the weight of that beast. That was part of the fun though, the uncertainty of what might bite and what new fish she might encounter on her line that night. It was part of what kept her coming back to cast again and again.

I've gotten a lot better about not being quite so... long winded with my imagery, and over time I found that it's very fun to integrate characters' own observations into scenes when describing them! I think it all just makes the scenes come a lot more alive if you can feel the world around you.
The word rang out in Qoribucha’s mind as he took in his surroundings properly for the first time since their group arrived in Reunion. He wasn’t quite sure he could call the Azim Steppe home anymore. Almost three decades had passed since he left the Steppe to join the Confederacy, and two decades since he last visited Othard as a whole. And yet, for reasons Qoribucha couldn’t quite decipher, it didn’t feel any less like home to him. Qoribucha took a deep breath and sighed. The air was fresh, carrying on it the scent of grass, buuz, and dzo shit. An overwhelming mixture to the unfamiliar, but a relaxing one to any who called the Azim Steppe their homeland. It felt bittersweet to be back after all this time. It was a shame he was here alone. He had recognized a few faces mingling about the crowds. They showed signs of age, wrinkles spreading across their faces, color fading from their hair, and the occasional grunts and groans in pain as their bodies protested against their usual routines. Qoribucha was certain that if they recognized him, they’d see the same marks of the passage of time in him. Considering how long he had been away, he wouldn’t be surprised if none of them recognized him. Bi’tala’s chest quickly rose and fell as he tried to catch his breath. He rested his head on top of Su’a’s as he gazed out over the stretching sands of the Sangoli. He was still wrangling with the fact that just the day prior they faced down a godsdamned primal of all things and somehow managed to survive the ordeal. Given how shaken they all were at the time, Thancred agreed to deliver the report of events in their stead and grant them a few days to recover, which the group ultimately chose to spend with the U tribe given Su’a’s familiarity with them. Bi’tala’s tail trailed back and forth in the shallow waters of the oasis. A twinge of guilt twisted in his heart as he felt Su’a nuzzle closer against him. He wasn’t sure he deserved this. Bi’tala wouldn’t deny that it felt nice to hold each other close like this, any time spent with his crush was a delight in itself. But as Su’a’s bodyguard, Bi’tala felt like a complete and utter failure given his conduct the day before. It made moments like this feel wholly undeserved. He stretched his claws and cast his gaze out over the sprawling domain around him. Ruins of a civilization long forgotten provided shelter to many voidsent that sought a place free of the tyranny of the archfiends — a rarity in this world provided only by those strong enough to fend them off. The dark-robed voidsent was one of the few capable of doing so, her unique state allowing her a power that no other voidsent could have. It was a strength even Jaculus had to acknowledge — for as great as he was, he could not compare to the dark-robed one. Though the passage of time was effectively non-existent within the void, the mystery of the dark-robed one's disappearance had plagued the minds of his subjects for quite some time. He had no answers for their questions, nor did he care much to find them. This was his domain now, as far as he was concerned. And yet, it would not take long for things to change as they almost never did in this world. On the backs of winged beasts came a small group of strange beings led by — horrors below — the dark-robed one. Though she looked different outwardly, the composition of her aether was unmistakable, dismally gray like all others, though a touch lighter due to the circumstances of her birth. She stood out amongst those behind her, souls filled with such a bright resplendence, it was difficult to look straight on. A weak voidsent — not Jaculus of course — could never bear such a sight and live to tell the tale. B’onggo’s ears perked up, and they quickly spun around, turning their eyes to the sky. Though their view was partially obstructed by the billowing multi-colored cloths that hung from the rooftops above, there was no mistaking it. Meteors streaked across a now-burning red sky, leaving not a single trace of the welcoming sun-filled day that had been there just moments before. B’onggo felt their blood run cold at the all-too-familiar sight. Their mouth felt dry, and their heart pounded inside their chest. All too vivid memories of those very same meteors streaking across the skies of the First flashed within their mind. Elidibus had attempted to play them for fools, but B’onggo was certain that the threat had been dealt with atop the Crystal Tower. They nearly gave their life to see it through. B’onggo’s mind raced with questions as they tried to rationalize exactly what they were seeing. Had Elidibus somehow escaped the confines of the Crystal Tower and returned to the Source? Was there yet another Ascian seeking to continue his work? Or was this related to the Telophoroi’s machinations in some way? Fandaniel had reared his ugly head in recent months, but B’onggo was certain Runi and Su’a had gone to the moon to handle him. Had something gone awry on their mission?

"What made you decide to become a wandering nunh? You know as well as I do, nunhs with double letters are often scorned by the other seeker tribes of Eorzea for abandoning their tribes. To invoke that upon yourself…" B'runi furrowed her eyebrows with concern as she trailed off. Bi'tala leaned back on his arm, pursing his lips a little as he thought over how to answer his sister's question. "They drove me out, in a sense," he finally answered. "When our mother disappeared during the Calamity, something… happened. Except for me, everyone's memories of her became warped. They claimed she died in the flight from Ala Mhigo, and that someone else had served as our nunh for the years we were established in the Twelveswood, though no one could really give you a firm answer as to who exactly that was." B'runi's ears perked up with interest as the story rang a familiar bell. "Louisoix's spell from Carteanu." "That's my current theory, though it's not like we have much to go on," he said, letting out a long sigh as he flicked his tail with annoyance. "Regardless, I went from being a strong contender for a future nunh to the local kupo nut. They claimed I was delusional with grief and had made up the whole set of events to cope with the sudden loss of my family. For a time I almost believed them." "So you left?" He nodded. "It was damaging to be around that sort of attitude and I needed to get away from it, if only to take time to process it all and decide if what they were saying was true. In the end, it didn't matter what the truth was, because it stopped feeling like home the moment they turned on me like that. Which is why I took the title of nunh." Bi'tala gestured vaguely with his free hand. "If I couldn't belong with my own tribe, I would simply make one where I did, where everyone did. The outcasts, misfits, and rejects of the world, all welcome under one banner. That was… the idea at least. Rather a bit idealistic in retrospect but I was far less worldwise back then." "Maybe…" B'runi offered him a soft smile, "but the sentiment is rather nice. I hope you're able to achieve it." Bi'tala chuckled and shrugged. "Going to be hard now without my leg." "Surely you won't let a little thing like that stop you?" B'runi's attempt at humor fell a bit flat as her brother's expression soured a bit. "A-Ah sorry… that was too far." "It's okay. We haven't known each other in two decades. Our interactions are bound to be rough at first as we become…" he trailed off, ears flicked back with worry as he frantically thought over what word to use that hopefully didn't seem like he was pressuring her. "Friends," B'runi finished. "And maybe in the future, proper siblings."

Jeweled and Clifton, the Eager Conjurer, run through Stone Vigil with their two companions close behind them. Clifton answers, "Frankly, we should be the one asking you that, Jeweled. You’re three moons along now. 11/1/2025- "What is that for?" | "Let go.(!)(?)” - Fabric/Material (leather, silk, iron) against skin | A held out sound (singing/yelling/moaning/laughing etc) "Let go," B'gyle growled, the deep gutteral noise from within his throat serving as a warning to the chirugeon that seemed intent on pushing their luck. The loud moans of other wounded shoulders echoed throughout the medical chambers of Rhalgr's Reach — including B'gyle's own relatives — which was all the more reason the chirugeon should leave him be and focus on those who actually need it. "I've been ordered to inspect all those involved in the attack, which includes you, and I can't well inspect you for head injuries if you refuse to remove that covering," the chirugeon answered sharply, tugging on the bandanna again only to be met with another loud growl from B'gyle. The fabric was nothing more than a piece of cloth made into a makeshift head covering to replace the one B'gyle used to try and stop the bleeding from B'runi's stomach wound, but to remove it here where his third eye would be plainly visible would cause more strife and anguish than the wounded residents needed right now. Seeming to finally register that B'gyle had no intention of budging on the matter, the chirugeon released their grip on the scarf, instead moving to a nearby medical station and tossing a potion to B'gyle with a rather disatisfied expression. "What's this for…" he started to ask, only to catch a disgruntled frown that told him it was best just to drink it and not ask questions if he wanted his headscarf to stay on for now.
