I always thought Microsoft Azure and Azure support was bad but when compared to office365 it's actually a really good offering.

Hetzner is much easier to get compute resources from than compared to AWS. I'm trying to spin up 4 nodes in AWS with a total of 8vCPU's and i've been waiting on a service quota increase for 3 days now. In Hetzner the defaults are a lot higher and they generally approve quota increases in <24h

If you use google workspace and don't maintain regular backups of your google drive, I recommend upgrading to the basic enterprise plan to get free access to "vault". It's not a proper backup solution, but it still saved me from having to redo some work today. Our retention configs are below:

Anyone deploying kubernetes using kubeadm? If so, any GitHub projects or wrappers that you would recommend over it?

This week I have spent over 10 hours trying to order a new laptop for an employee from both Staples Canada AND Amazon Canada. Once again, it's an issue with both cross-border payments and/or fraud alarms going off. Last time, I had the same issue with CDW Canada. WHY IS THIS SOOOO DIFFICULT 😭😭😭

Just attended a Hyderabad Postgres meetu hosted at AWS offices. It was a solid event and great networking with a room full of experts on Postgresql.

Upgraded to Kubernetes 1.30 earlier today, and hours later Kubernetes 1.32 dropped! 😅

I am back to being on a version that's soon to be unsupported.

OK! I'm throwing this out there to get feedback -- who wants to come to an #atproto developer conference in March 2025?

#ATmosphereConf feedback form is live, let me know what you think!
Initial call for interest: want to get involved in an #atproto in-person conference, late March in the Pacific Northwest?

Read the info at atprotocol.dev/atmosphereco... and please fill out the form to give feedback

I'm hanging out in India right now and it's surprisingly difficult to make payments as a foreigner. Even Google pay doesn't work as my account is USD.

For the people who think Comcast or Spectrum customer support is bad, I have traveled thousands of miles and discovered it's just as bad in India.

Whenever I take a year-old online course, I hit setup issues. My current course says to use the latest tool version, but I get a dozen errors. Downgrading is usually a total cluster F'k when I'm 2‑5 versions ahead. With DevBox, I downgraded in 60s and can now focus on learning.

Choosing a wiki solution feels more difficult than picking a cloud provider.

I'm noticing a number of package versions for opentofu and argocd are missing in nixpkgs. Why can't they use renovatebot?

Turns out this was PEBCAK. It appears we actually got #hetzner object storage working with #loki #thanos and #tempo. The costs savings are looking good! So far looks like it'll be about 1/10th of what we were spending on our dev/R&D costs in AWS. #devops #cloud #cloudengineering #developerplatforms
Just burned a few hours trying to list objects using Hetzner's beta Object storage. It appears this isn't possible right now: docs.hetzner.com/storage/obje... #devops #hetzner

I'm watching some folks reverse engineer the xz backdoor, sharing some *preliminary* analysis with permission.

The hooked RSA_public_decrypt verifies a signature on the server's host key by a fixed Ed448 key, and then passes a payload to system().

It's RCE, not auth bypass, and gated/unreplayable.
This might be the best executed supply chain attack we've seen described in the open, and it's a nightmare scenario: malicious, competent, authorized upstream in a widely used library.

Looks like this got caught by chance. Wonder how long it would have taken otherwise.
Woah. Backdoor in liblzma targeting ssh servers.

www.openwall.com/lists/oss-se...

It has everything: malicious upstream, masterful obfuscation, detection due to performance degradation, inclusion in OpenSSH via distro patches for systemd support…

Now I’m curious what it does in RSA_public_decrypt

if anyone on the team expresses dismay at this, we say "what do you work at google?" and press the button
