Just finished this - an essential book on the prevalence and persistence of «Indian fighting» in US military operations, from the Philippines to WW2, to Afghanistan and the Dakota Pipeline.

The founding genocide of the US still serves to legitimise counterinsurgency and genocidal wars today.

lol! it's in a blurb to this book. It should have been an omen - it's extremely uneven.

But the chapter on Zwarte Piet is fascinating. Wekker argues that he's become re-interpreted as Muslim during the last 20 years - an example of how the racist psyche adapts to new perceived threats.

Just finished this classic account of the politics of "popular" culture. I particularly enjoyed the chapters on labor struggle, depictions of working class people, and the US military's investment in the film industry.

People tell me that I look like Michael Cera in Juno. Our running technique is very similar.

The continuation of colonialism and white supremacy in Germany from 1800 to now is extremely scary. In school, we never learned about the genocide in Namibia, where Germans built death camps, and tried to exterminate the Herero and Nama peoples.

just started reading this. highly recommended.

Demonstration for Palestine in Alta in the far North of Norway. The speakers told about the Palestinians who have lived, studied and made friends here. We demand immediate ceasefire and end to the occupation!!

I saw The Dying Man (1518) by Lucas Cranach the Elder in Leipzig this summer, but I just learned that it used to be in St. Nicholas until 1815. So in 1724, Johann Sebastian Bach and his musicians performed the first version of the St. John Passion together with this incredible painting.
