I write and voice act in parodies, which again not all forms of media have the abilities to take the same liberties. When you are working with limited animation and you have source material to follow, you are only have so much to work with, it's not one size fits all.

Could you imagine calling someone a "puppeteer" because you walk onto someone's set or into the voice acting booth and say "Yeah this is fine, but I don't like the ending, let's change it, and if you don't like it, you can't take criticism". That is what you sound like. Very gaslight-y.

That is your opinion, not a fact. Some people have an artistic vision, you can't change the entire story of something just because one person doesn't like a line or two, if you can't nail the line, that's fine, you can find a solution around it, but not if it changes the narrative entirely.

When I write my projects, I direct the VA's to you know, actually help see the vision that I have, if it doesn't turn out the way I want, THEN does it get adjusted slight. But to think you gotta adjust it in the first place for the VA's you work with just seems silly. Adlibbing is just extra.
