This is incredible, heart breaking, emotionally powerful writing. I think it's hard for someone reading this now to grasp how radical James Baldwin was in writing this in 1956, but nonetheless the amount of emotion and feeling he packs into such a short book is nothing but astounding.

Enemies and Neighbours review 📚

This was a 4⭐ read which was very insightful, but didn't quite give me the level of analysis I was expecting!

Thoughts on my #currentread 📚

I'm only half way through but this has taught me so much about the history of Palestinian and Israel's actions in the last one hundred years. I would highly recommend it if you feel you lack the understanding of what's happening in the Middle East right now.

Book 23
Rating 3⭐

Not the read I imagined it to be. For a bookish romance I expected far more scenes in the bookshops but alas we didn't get those. The vibes were good and I liked the main character but it was far too insta love for me...

Adored this - Ali Smith's abstract writing style somehow manages to encapsulate so many feelings going on in Britain right now - but always gives the reader a sense of hope too 🌷✨

Not as good as Chasing the Wild - I found the plot a little repetitive but still a good read!

Book 20
Rating 3⭐

I really wanted to like this as I found the first 20 pages or so really eye opening but for such a short book it got so repetitive and boring and I found it incredibly hard to follow. It's really hard to follow and digest so I'm feeling very uncertain about this book.

Most of what people know about Henry V is bound up with the success of the Battle of Agincourt and Shakespeare. But Dan Jones reveals a more complex character and encourages us to view his successes and failures in the context of his own time period rather than ours.

Do not recommend, don't understand the hype. I actually think the sentiment of this 'girl boss' book is pretty toxic.

This was such a unique take on a romance! A leading male character who wasn't a perfect sex god? Incredible and so refreshing! I did think the ending was rushed but overall this was such a good read.

Book 13
Rating: 4⭐

I loved this! Historical fiction filled with court intrigue, passion, drama and conflict.

Our main character, Grouch is based on Shakespeare's Lady Macbeth. Isabelle Schuler brings her to life brilliantly, whilst writing a thrilling story full of twists and turns.

My two #currentreads - looks like I'm in a history mood!!

I always try to read two books simultaneously but make sure they are different - either by format or genre & this really works for me!

How does everyone else juggle their TBRs??

Book 12: Want by Gillian Anderson
Rating: 3⭐

This could have done with more editing. It reads like a group of letters just dumped into a book. If that was the intention, fair enough but I expected more. I think the name is selling this more than the scope, which is far from revolutionary.

Book 11
Rating: 3⭐

Mixed feelings. I was enjoying it to about half way when it started to get crazy. I like how it was a simple story about our main character trying to find her dad and how this unfurled to be a study of the self. But I did feel lost and it started to get VERY abstract 🙃

Book 10
Rating: 4⭐

In Ascension is a genre bending. It is beautiful and bleak, detailed and sparse, fast paced and painstakingly slow. It's full of contrasts which leaves the reader unsettled, in awe and questioning everything. I was left wanting more but maybe not having the answers was the point?

Book 9 of 2025 🖤

Ripper has become entrenched in British history for all the wrong reasons. But Hallie Rubenhold successfully encourages readers to shift their perspectives and focus on the women and their lives that were destroyed in this ground breaking, revisionist account.

My short answer for how I feel about this: "hmm"

This was my most highly anticipated release of the year so my standards were high but ugh this was disappointing. I'm really hoping the next two planned books steer it back in the right direction!
