Self collection is definitely a good option, it's offered in Vic as well. The only downside is that if a doctor does the collection, they can sometimes spot other issues that can't be picked up by the smear test. But much better to self-collect than not test.

Agree the design is really bad.
I use a seatbelt cushion to mitigate the risk. It is a synthetic, kind of rough fabric that has friction against my clothes so the belt stays mostly on the top of my chest/shoulder.Not ideal, but a bit safer.
