I have always been proud of my heritage. While I didn’t grow up on a reservation, my family still held our culture and heritage in high regard. I went to school in the summer time for other indigenous youths. Where we learned about our heritage and history.

Attended many Pow Wows, and felt the close togetherness of our cousins. There was always a spiritual bond that I have enjoyed.

While I have my name at birth. My Uncle later granted me my Chumash name. Something that was near and dear to myself and him.

Something you want to share or celebrate about your culture: Please visit your local Pow Wow! They are an experience for everyone! Just remember to be respectful. If you don’t understand something. Please feel free to ask questions.

Something you want to share or celebrate about your culture: Over here in California we refer to Powwows as a Big Time! Big time is the term we adopted for English to signify its importance. They do work similarly in general but I think it's neat that we do have a different name for it and it’s always awesome to go as well!!

what i love about being indigenous: having such a strong understanding of what it both feels like and means to be a valued part of a community. in todays society - people are so isolated. it feels like a blessing to be able to still value connection and community the way that we do.

something i want to share about my culture: one of my favorite events - the I’n Lo’n Schka dance. every june - we celebrate with three I’n Lo’n Schka dances: one in each distract of Osage nation. it is a time to celebrate our history and our people. this event is so incredibly special to me and so many others of Osage Nation.

Kiowa & Mvskoke What I love about being Indigenous: There’s so many things I love about being Indigenous. The food, music, storytelling, art & traditions. But my favorite thing is the sense of community it comes with being Indigenous. Despite what nation we come from we are so willing to take in & connect with other Native individuals. I love being able to meet a practical stranger, but know I am safe to show my true self to this person from the start. It’s truly magical.

What I’m excited to share about my culture: I’m most excited to share my art. Whether it’s Beadwork or digital art. I want to create, talk and laugh with people about what I love.

There are many examples of Lakota people being fierce, brave warriors, and it's something my father instilled in me - it inspires me to this day when facing adversity

I love being Indigenous because I feel closer to the earth, ancestors, and all my relations. I feel this deep connection and sense of both belonging and duty. That duty is to preserve and respect the earth and my people's legacy for future generations.

One thing I love about being Indigenous is that alot of us are born creative. Even with the limited tools we've had, we always thrived in any environment because our people have always been nomads and moving constantly since the 1800's. One thing I love about our culture is how welcoming it is once you find it. It took me 26+ years to find a group of Ntvs just like me to feel like I finally belong and my art is finally respected upon peers from who I also respect and admire. It's so amazing how creative natives can be, I can only hope to uplift our upcoming youth in our circles to have the confidence/support that the most of us didn't have the luxury of having when we were their age.

Being indigenous especially coming from 2 nations gives me a perspective and place in the world that is unique to me yet similar to others at the same time. It's so beautiful to carve my own path with my ancestors in mind and being able to find community in people that can relate/understand my story wether they're from the same tribe or not we all want to make our ancestors proud and give back to our land that constantly empowers us

In the wake of tragedy there's beauty in our resilience, Maya women would weave stories into our clothing when colonizers tried to wipe us from history and today it's a practice that continues and an art that'll never be lost, Tainos spirituality includes stories of Cemis who are our ancestral spirits keeping us connected to nature and the island as we move to honor them all

For a very long time I thought I wouldn't find a native American indigenous community online, and I found that through twitch, I really love that everyone gets the native humor that everyone seemed to have grown up with and we're able to laugh at really difficult times to get through it.

I'll do something recent, with the government shut down and the whole snap debacle, my tribe has come together to help fundraise for people who will need food, lot of local businesses and a food pantry are coming together to make sure everyone is fed.
