I use a piece of white card behind the film, not hard up against it but a few mm back, causing light drop off & turning it light grey. In fact I'm now thinking that actual grey card would be better for getting correct exposure & white balance.

Search for 'floating frame' or '3d floating frame' on Ebay. They are designed to hold coins for display but work well for restraining small inverts for examination/togging whilst avoiding having to kill them. I use the 4cm & 5cm square ones but there are loads of sizes.
