On the internet, nobody knows you’re a dog.
And when people show up at a shelter without doing any prior research and pick a dog based on vibes it’s a roll of the dice whether they’re actually prepared to take care of that dog or not, especially a random mixed breed who’s needs might be really difficult to guess ahead of time anyway.

Humans can do a bad job of it of course, but results really are better if a human is selecting healthy animals with desired traits to breed. This is why we have cats and dogs in the first place!!!

Actual animal shelters do really important work but I think the slogan “adopt don’t shop” and introducing people to the concept of “backyard breeders” might have done as much harm as good. Dogs and cats are domesticated animals they’re DESIGNED for humans to oversee the breeding process.

I put this on while hanging out with my mom tonight— she graduated high school in 1974 and she laughed until she cried at the “stay awhile” jump scare— apparently she has not thought of this song in at least 50 years. I feel like there must be more to the story but she’s unwilling to elaborate.

The hat sneering is so weird and obviously gendered!!! It got popular during a VERY cold January!!!! If you’re already outside protesting having a group hat to make and wear is a practical way to generate joy and solidarity. It’s not that complicated.

I gotta be honest I don’t think most people knitting these hats were doing nothing. A distinctive knitted hat is very appealing to people who already spend every winter demonstrating at their state capital during legislative season. There is a lot of resistance that doesn’t make the news.

Oooh definitely the costuming. Evie and Rick are both dressed and styled so appealingly. Also their character archetypes are both excellent.

Culturally we do not consider kids people and folks on the left always think they’re exempt from this fact and then you see shit like that and it’s like, oh no, they’re like this too. The other one that gets me are the people who want to abandon all the “red” states as if kids chose where to be born

Getting married at 18 is better than getting married at 12. Let’s be real, no ancient Greek society was good about bodily autonomy for women, but you’re a lot more likely to survive childbirth at 19 than you are at 13. And to be clear I’m not pro Sparta, it did suck.
February 2, 2026 at 8:34 PM
But naturally almost everyone obsessed with Sparta is a man. There something almost self destructive about it.

(accidentally hit post too soon…)
February 2, 2026 at 7:46 PM
Sparta is fascinating to me because if you’re a man there is ZERO reason to idealize these people over other Greek societies, whereas for women there is an argument to be made that being a spartan woman is at least an improvement over being an athenian woman.

As somebody so short it veers into being a disability people gotta chill the fuck out oh my god. Short people don’t face any actual cultural or systemic discrimination, especially at “short for a guy” levels of shortness. It’s fine.

I forgot there was a new show and I really thought this was going to be the start of a little micro fiction thread about enrolling in Starfleet… That last sentence really had me slipping on a mental banana peel.

Oh for sure, but even in a worst case scenario where they were all ready to do it all over again there’s not enough of them to do it again hundreds of times all over the country as I’ve seen folks suggest.

Most MAGA are malicious but lazy; they’ll sell you out but chasing you down is too much work.
January 15, 2026 at 7:43 PM
I 100% promise there are not enough energetic and deranged weirdos to stage January 6th type events all over the country and prevent midterms. They can’t even gather enough forces when they’re getting paid people definitely aren’t doing it for free en masse.
January 15, 2026 at 7:19 PM
Admittedly my feelings on all this are colored by the fact that I work for queer affirming church and every time right wing assholes remember we exist and someone suggests harassing us these weenies can’t even call during office hours, and when they leave voice mail it’s for me and not the pastor.

It would do a lot of these folks a lot of good to get out and organize in person. IME the people doing things IRL and the people talking online are not the same people. Seeing it helps. It doesn’t matter where you live. I’m in Idaho and I know of five demonstrations that happened in the last week.
January 15, 2026 at 6:59 PM
That “affirming” on the sign btw is church talk for “welcoming and accepting of queer people” which I am VERY surprised to see on a Baptist church, but is a pretty standard feature among many other denominations.
January 13, 2026 at 6:27 AM
I promise you they do not. Jesus does not preach exclusion and any Christian that chooses to exclude people is doing it because they want to and not because it’s mandated. The Bible is a many texts written over long periods of time by many people, it can say anything. Exclusion is not a base feature
