Dune meets The Gladiator meets Star Wars. Has its moments, which piques my curiousity a bit for the latter volumes in the series. But not that much to jump immediately into them.

Book 8/60 in 2025. Rating 3/5.

Full of great ideas. Over-indulgent and laboured execution leading to a tepid ending. Not holding my breath for rest of the series. Was expecting a lot more from the author who wowed me with Baru Cormorant.

5 great animated series' I have caught in recent times -

Castlevania - Dracula with a "delicious" twist
Arcane - Utterly gorgeous steampunk spectacle
Pantheon - Pitch perfect adaptation of Ken Liu's mindbenders
Twilight of the Gods - Norse myth in uncharted waters
Blue Eye Samurai - Stylish as hell

As comfort reads go, there are precious few to beat Wayward Children. Every book in the series is somewhat similar, yet it feels so nice to return to them.

Book 5/60 in 2025. 4/5

A fascinating dissection of the frailities and insecurities we wrap ourselves in. How we continually chop and peel what we say, what we hear, what we feel, what we think we feel, what others think and what we think others think. All leading up to exactly what?

Rankin's Inspector Rebus series comes highly recommended. However, after reading the 1st installment, you wonder what the fuss is about. The plot is predictable and the protagonist's actions amidst a severe personal crisis seem to be a bit bewildering.

Book 3/60 in 2025

Verghese's prose (with a liberal shadow of Rushdie) is wonderful and so is the setting. The melodramatic climax manages to spoil it only a bit.

A poignant end to Adrian Tchaikovsky @aptshadow.bsky.social 's masterful Tyrant Philosophers trilogy. Seriously, is there something that the man cannot do?

The many moods of Mount Nandadevi (the second highest Himalayan peak in India at 7817m).

The mountain is (in)famous for the difficulty in scaling it's summit.

Captured from the ski town of Auli, Uttarakhand, India.

Excited to delve into the mysteries of Kithamar again with Daniel Abraham's second book in the series.

Having read both - Dagger & Coin as well as Long Price - I am constantly intrigued by how intricately wrought and realistic his worldbuilding is.

Hoping to be floored again !!

In my second underrated SFF author highlight, here is the amazing Katherine Arden and her quite brilliant Winternight trilogy .. an irresistible cocktail of Russian folktale inspired fantasy + female protagonist with some serious agency.

Its a fabulous ride !!

New year, new TBR shelf ...

Deliberate attempt to read outside my comfort zone of SFF.

All these after I finish Wind and Truth / The Mercy of Gods, though.

A brilliant YA author who I do not think gets enough love is Frances Hardinge. Her works are deep and honest studies of teenage years and how worldviews are shaped. Her wonderful protagonists are all uniformly brave and she gently suggests that is the root cause of all agency. Here are my top 4 📚💙🪐
